YMCA Afterschool YMCA offers activities for people of all ages. They also offer diverse programs which can be chosen depending on one’s interest and convenience. One such program offered by YMCA is YMCA Afterschool. YMCA Afterschool provides children with an opportunity to learn, have fun, get active and discover who they are.
YMCA Afterschool takes into consideration the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility and thus works with children everyday to help them grow and thrive. They provide real life context to information learned in the classroom. Cooking projects and writing journals are examples which help to teach fractions and develop writing skills respectively. This promotes their self expression. The YMCA Afterschool sites are licensed by the Texas Department Family and Protective Services. They operate on a 1:15 staff to student ratio. They provide individual attention to children and ensure a safer environment.
The YMCA has strong partnership with schools which help them to provide the best afterschool programs, where the school, parents and children benefit the most. The YMCA builds mutually beneficial relationships with the schools by participating and involving in PTA, open house, school festivals, book fairs and other special events and also provides child care at these functions. The YMCA staff work with teachers, guidance counselors and other school staff to carry forward teaching, development and discipline in the afternoon, thus building consistency for children in the school. YMCA staff also makes themselves available to communicate directly with parents on a daily basis. A secure cabinet or adequate storage space for program materials is made available by the YMCA.
