Just about to get a Gorillapod...

...that I bought off TradeMe. They look pretty cool and I was able to snatch up a second hand SLR-ZOOM model which holds up to 3kgs for a mere $25 + postage.

Anyone got one of these? What do you think of them?

I forgot to mention, in case you don't know what a Gorillapod is, it's a tripod that is essentially made of a bunch of "ball and socket" joints so that the legs can be bent to whatever shape you need. The tips of the legs are almost entirely covered with rubber for grippiness. The rest of the ball joints have rings of rubber to grip whatever they're wrapped around. Check out the website...

Gorrillapods are great and useful, haven't got one but a friend has.

I'm loving it. Had easter in Whangarei but forgot to take it. I went down to the Whangarei Falls and realised I really needed it. I resorted to trying to position the camera on rocks and tree branches as I used to do before I had the Gorillapod and we all know how pictures like that aren't so good!

The Gorillapod would have been ideal to lift the camera off the rocks and wrap it around the tree branches to position the shots better.

Oh well, lesson learnt - MAKE SURE I PACK ALL OF MY EQUIPMENT!

Hi micool, I LOVE my gorilla pod, it's very useful and use it alot, however I must say you got a great deal as I recently paid $90 for mine at our local camera shop!

It's definitely become a part of my essential kit now. I brought a great Tamrac camera bag over 3 years ago now (paid something like $85 for it) and it was as if I somehow knew that I was going to get a Gorillapod as there is a perfect strap seemingly made just for it on the side. I'd never been able to use the stap on the bag before this as it was too small for a regular tripod.

Big ups to Joby, the makers of Gorillapod for a fantastic product Laughing

Hey was the one you got off trade me a 'clone one' or an original?? I am looking for a tripod to do some close up stuff and was wondering if this might be the best way to go.

An original. I've heard the clone Gorillapods tend to loose their 'friction' and don't grip as well after a short time.
