Selective lightening of the hills has had the effect of balancing the exposure better. While not as good as the full HDR treatment it is a way of "rescuing" an image at times. See the original for comparison in mikewalen's Extended Panoramas Album.

Levin Town Clock photographed during 2005 at 9:25 at night. This needed two exposures. One for the structure; the second for the clock face, as the light levels were too extreme to properly capture with a single shot. The images were then combined in Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 Ultimate.
